I am used to the highs and lows of living with cancer. A couple of weeks ago I was very low, but right now I am absolutely loving the high I am on. Yes, my mouth still hurts some, but it’s easy to get past it with the overwhelming love and support I have been receiving since the beginning of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
I am in New York and after a fun appearance on Good Day New York, I had an absolute riot with Elisabeth Hasselbeck on Fox and Friends. Jessica Herrin, the CEO of Stella & Dot, and I were on to talk about the impact we have made in the fight against breast cancer with the Stella & Dot Breast Cancer Awareness Boutique. Once again this year, Stella & Dot is donating 100 percent of the net proceeds of its breast cancer collection – a gorgeous array of earrings, bracelets, a necklace and scarf – to the Noreen Fraser Foundation to support our mission to fund groundbreaking women’s cancer research. I know you hear about these pink programs all of the time, but this one has really made an impact.
Last year, with the help from the proceeds earned from Stella & Dot, the Noreen Fraser Foundation established an epigenetics lab at UCLA so that researchers there can collaborate with scientists at Johns Hopkins to test a cutting edge new type of breast cancer therapy. We were also able to fund research at the University of Alberta in Canada so that researchers there could test a new radiation therapy for women with early stage breast cancer.
There are more projects that deserve our funding this year, and sales from the Stella & Dot boutique will help us make that happen.
This Saturday, you can catch me on Huckabee, where I will be discussing an important new study that reveals just how little we know about our breast cancer risk. Then, I am off to Washington D.C. as an event speaker with U.S. Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz of Florida and Dr. Jamey Skillings, the vice president of global affairs for Pfizer Inc., at the Healthcare Businesswomen’s Association.
I promised Woody I would take it easy in between all of these appearances, but it’s so hard when I am this excited!
