Miami – I’m so over Kenneth Briggs and Jonathan Jayne, who together are this year’s William Hung of “American Idol” fame.
Guys, you’re nice enough, but your 15 minutes are up. Since there are two of you, I’ll give you 30 minutes, and even those are up.
In case anyone missed it, Briggs and Jayne sang for Chicago Bears quarterback Rex Grossman here in Miami during media day.
Briggs tried to get Grossman to sing “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” with them, and when Grossman refused, Briggs got testy, screeching “come on man, America’s counting on you.”
Rex responded, “America’s not counting on me to sing.”
It was even more pathetic to witness in person than it was to watch on tape, which I cut down to spare you the experience.
Suffice it to say, the “Bush Baby” (as Simon Cowell put it, and incidentally is the search term I Googled to get these guys’ names) and his cohort are the circus act of the year.
And I feel more Grrr than sympathy here.
Just what were these two guys doing at one of the most important media events here at the Super Bowl anyway? “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” that’s what.
Oh, I can’t wait to watch that episode on YouTube.
And just as “Idol” reject Ian Bernardo has generated a lot of media interest for his absurd (but very entertaining) antics with Simon Cowell, the whole media obsession with anyone who gets told off by Cowell is getting tired.
The irony here is Cowell is the guy weeding out these pretenders so America doesn’t have to endure bad singing, bad jokes, bad wardrobes, bad hair and simple delusion, and then those rejects get more air time than Taylor Hicks.
I was also stunned to when these guys told Meredith Vieira on the “Today” show that they had agents. Agents? For what exactly? Oh yeah. “Jimmy Kimmel Live.”
FOXNews.com At The Super Bowl
In addition to being Grrr’d by the AI circus act, I’ve also been meeting some pretty cool people here in Miami, at various events.
Sportscaster Greg Gumbel will be awarded the Pat Summerall Award, which goes to a sports broadcaster who demonstrates character and leadership in and out of the broadcast booth. We’ll also catch up with Hank Williams Jr. at the NFL alumni MVP Award dinner at the Seminole Hard Rock Casino in Hollywood, Florida, where among others, Troy Aikman, Drew Brees and Ladanian Tomlinson will be in attendance.
